crewmen are killed, 12 injured.

8 June, 1905 - The A-8 floods and sinks during an exercise, killing
15. Four crewmembers escape the A-8 as she sinks and are rescued.

13 June, 1907 - An explosion of gasoline fumes kills three men aboard
C-8.

14 July, 1909 - C-11 sinks after colliding with both the SS
Eddystone and a sister ship, C-16 off Cromer. 13 men lost,

20 January, 1921 - K-5 failed to surface after diving during
a fleet exercise in the Bay of Biscay. 57 men lost.

10 January, 1924 - L-24 is lost after colliding with the battleship

12 November, 1925 - M-1 is struck while submerged by the Swedish
merchant ship SS Vidar off Start Point. 69 men killed.

9 August, 1926 - The H-29 sinks in Devonport Dockyard after being
trimmed down with the hatches open. 6 people (5 civillians) are killed.

9 July, 1929 - The H-47 collides with the L-12 off the
Welsh coast. H-47 sinks immediately. L-12 manages to
remain afloat and returns to port. 21 men lost, 3 survivors from
H-47.

9 June, 1931 - The Poseidon sinks after being involved in a collision
with the merchant vessel SS Yuta in the Gulf of Korea. 22
men lost. 35 survivors.

1 June, 1939 - The Thetis founders after flooding through the
#5 forward tube, killing a total of 99 crewmembers, civillian technicians,
and senior naval observers. One observer, one officer, and two crewmembers
escaped. Thetis is salvaged and recommissioned as HMS Thunderbolt.

8 August, 1949 - The Sceptre is heavily damaged by a battery
explosion. No men lost, but damage so severe that she is scrapped.

13 January, 1950 - The Truculent sinks in 60' of water in the
Thames River after being involved in a collision with the Swedish-flag
tanker Divina. 6 men are killed in the collision, 54 more die of
exposure after escaping from the sunken submarine.

8 April, 1950 - A midget submarine explodes in Portsmouth harbor, killing
one.

16 June, 1951 - The Affray sinks in the English Channel, possibly
after a weld fails in a snorkel mast. 75 crewmen are killed.

17 June, 1955 - The diesel-powered submarine Sidon is heavily
damaged and sinks after an experimental hydrogen-peroxide powered torpedo
explodes in the forward torpedo room while the Sidon is tied up
in Portland harbor. Thirteen are killed, 43 survivors.

30 September, 1971 - The diesel-powered submarine Alliance suffers
an explosion and fire in a battery compartment after hydrogen gas builds
up due to a faulty ventillation system. One man is killed, 14 others are
injured.

2 May, 1976 - The nuclear-powered attack submarine Warspite suffers
a fire while in port. Three crewmen are injured. However repairs require
three years work and cost over 5,000,000 pounds sterling.
