H-1 (SS-28)

Grounded on a shoal of Santa Margarita Island, CA. Four men (including the Commanding Officer) were killed trying to reach shore.

After the remaining crew were rescued, the repair ship U.S.S. Vestal pulled the H-1 off the rocks, only to have her sink 45 minutes later. Further salvage attempts were abandoned.

The H-1 was found again in 1992.

Four men lost, 21 survivors.
