Date of Incident: 26 January, 1932
Returned to Service: No
While on an exercise, HMS M.2, a steam-powered submarine fitted with an experimental seaplane hanger sank with all hands.
She was seen by a passing merchant vessel on the surface and was observed to submerge stern first. The officers of the merchant ship, unaware of the significance of what they were watching, only mentioned the incident in passing when they reached port.
56 men lost. No survivors.
