H-1 (SS-28)

Grounded on a shoal of Santa Margarita Island, CA. Four men (including the Commanding Officer) were killed trying to reach shore.

After the remaining crew were rescued, the repair ship USS Vestal pulled H-1 off the rocks, only to have her sink 45 minutes later. Further salvage attempts were abandoned.

H-1 was found again in 1992.

Four men lost, 21 survivors.
